Marmara Islands Arts and Culture Axle

The aim is to support a participatory, inclusive, and democratic structure for the local culture-art ecosystem in Marmara, Avşa, and Ekinlik Islands through cultural policy training, improve the Çınarlı Culture and Arts Campus, increase the capacity of the Marmara Islands Museum, and implement the Island Cultures Festival.

The project of the Galimi Çınarlı Rural Development and Tourism Association aims to support the establishment of a participatory, inclusive, and democratic structure for the local culture-art ecosystem formed by municipalities, civil society organizations, and individual actors in Marmara, Avşa, and Ekinlik Islands. Resource limitations, distance to the mainland, and transportation difficulties are defined as disadvantages for public, private, and civil society organizations in providing culture-art services. The project aims to eliminate the disadvantaged status at the island scale by reducing inequalities in access to culture-art services, increasing local people’s participation in culture-art policy, and creating a sustainable culture-art ecosystem on the islands. While developing cooperation between civil society organizations and local government, it is planned to create environments where culture-art actors working in these fields can meet, collaborate, plan, and implement. The aim is to sustain the dynamism created by the establishment of the Çınarlı Culture and Arts Campus, the increase in the capacity of the Marmara Islands Museum, cultural policy training, and the Island Cultures Festival.
